Rite a Riff

I chose to share this poem with all you viewers after attending the student remembrance of my teacher that has recently passed away.  The line that is in bold is the line that has stuck with me since then.  This poem is about sadness and anger and apologizing.

As you stare through
Candle lit ghosts
you see more
than most
riding down the coast in a car
meant to get you far
far away
as those waves crash
against the sand
rocks and teaming land
teaming with creatures
big and small
but you're staring through
A candle lit ghost
you see more than most
you see the tears
fall from her eyes
as she, the ocean, cries
cries for the lost
cries for lives lost
for those taken away
because she took them
yes, the ocean
took them away
it was a moment of anger
of madness
of sadness
of herself floating away

and she apologizes
with gentle winds
and waters lapping at your toes
but no one else
will ever know
because only you
stare through
those Candle lit ghosts
seeing more than most
